Maple-flavoured syrup dumplings
1 cup self-raising flour, sifted Pinch of salt 1 tsp cinnamon 50g cold butter, cubed 70g roasted blanched almonds, coarsely chopped 1 egg, lightly beaten 1 tbsp milk Syrup1/2 cup maple-flavoured syrup
|1 cup||Self raising flour|
|70 g||Roasted almonds|
- Place the flour, salt, cinnamon and cubed butter in a bowl. Use your fingertips to rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Stir in the coarsely chopped almonds, beaten egg and milk and mix to form a soft dough.
- Place the syrup ingredients in a saucepan and stir over a medium heat until the sugar dissolves and the syrup is simmering. To make dumplings, drop tablespoonfuls of the dough into the simmering syrup.
- Simmer dumplings for 10 minutes, turning occasionally, or until a skewer inserted into the centre of a dumpling comes out clean. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream, if desired.
