Southern readers will recognise this delectable treat, while North Islanders might like to add it to their recipe books.

Ingredients

½ cup Water, boiling
1 packet Onion soup mix, approx 30g
1 splash Red onion, finely chopped
2½ cups Grated cheese
20 slices White sandwich bread
25 g Butter

Directions

  1. Place boiling water, onion soup, onion and grated cheese in a small saucepan and melt very gently over a low heat
  2. Spread cheese mixture on bread slices and roll tightly. Place rolls on a cold tray and dot with butter.
  3. Cook under a hot grill until golden, turning during cooking to get an even colour.
