Berry delicious choco-tart
Hannah submitted this recipe as an entry into our special occasion dessert reader recipe competition. Hannah says: "This is a recipe that I have tweaked from its original version that I found online. It’s special because it has become my ‘signature’ dessert due to it tasting absolutely sensational and my friends always ask me to make it when we have a shared dinner! "It’s incredibly easy to make yet looks like it’s taken some time to prepare. "In winter I substitute the fresh berries with a berry coulis made with frozen berries – such a treat!
|110 g||Unsalted butter|
|2 Tbsp||Golden syrup, or maple syrup|
|100 g||Dark chocolate|
|1 tsp||Vanilla essence/extract, or paste|
|2 Tbsp||Cocoa powder, sieved|
|½ cup||Brown sugar|
|120 g||Ground almonds|
|¼ tsp||Ground cardamom|
- Melt the butter, golden syrup, chocolate and vanilla in a broiler. Allow to cool for a few minutes so when you add the eggs they don’t cook. Add the eggs and mix with a whisk.
- Mix together the dry ingredients. Add the dry ingredients to the wet chocolate mixture mix together. Put it into a round, lined 20cm tin. Bake on fan bake at 160C for 25 minutes.
- Topping: Use a beater to whip the mascarpone, cream and vanilla paste together until just thick enough to sit on top of the tart without falling off. Cover with stacks of fresh berries and icing sugar.
