Vogel’s festive season fix # 1: Catering to dietary requirements at the end of year party
Entertaining - we’d do it more often if we didn’t have to cater for the extensive range of dietary issues that our friends, family and colleagues come with these days.
But there is an easy way of going about it and it starts with the new Vogel’s Gourmet Wholemeal Buns that are gluten-free and dairy-free and have a beautifully soft texture that make them enjoyable eating for everyone. Serve the buns on a platter surrounded with filling options to please - the more people you are catering for the more platters you can prepare. The beauty of it is that no one has to go without, everybody gets to build their own party bun (or two!) filled just how they like it.
Try these four filling ideas:
1. Make a parsley and macadamia pesto by blitzing 2 cups packed parsley with ¼ cup macadamias, 1 clove garlic and enough extra virgin olive oil to form a paste. Season with salt, pepper and lemon juice to taste. This offers vegans a protein option.
2. Grill baby carrots and asparagus spears with a little olive oil, salt, pepper and until soft. Toss with a squeeze of lemon and some chopped herbs. And/or roast peppers and eggplant with a drizzle of oil until soft, remove skins, slice and toss with balsamic vinegar, thyme and a little sugar. Vegans and vegetarians will love you for these. Fresh greens and tomatoes will be well received by rawtarians.
3. Sliced meats for the meatlovers, slices of feta or fried haloumi for the vegetarians.
4. Aioli, relishes, mustards, chutneys and pickles always perk everything up.
